Ordinary Decent Criminal is a crime-comedy film directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan and released in 2000. The film is inspired by the real-life criminal Martin Cahill, who was known as the "General" and was active in Dublin in the 1980s and 1990s.
The film follows the story of Michael Lynch (played by Kevin Spacey), a charismatic and daring criminal who operates in Dublin, Ireland. He is married to two women, Christine (played by Linda Fiorentino) and Lisa (played by Helen Baxendale), and has children with both of them. He is well-liked by the people of his neighborhood and often gives money to those in need.
Despite his reputation as a crime lord, Michael sees himself as a Robin Hood figure, stealing from the rich and powerful to give to the poor. He is also a master of disguise and enjoys playing pranks on the police.
However, when Michael and his crew steal a valuable painting from a wealthy art collector, the police become more determined than ever to catch him. Detective Noel Quigley (played by Stephen Dillane) is tasked with bringing Michael down, but finds himself increasingly frustrated by Michael's clever tactics and the loyalty of his associates.
As the police close in, Michael must use all of his wit and charm to evade them and protect his family. Ultimately, he is forced to confront the consequences of his actions and the possibility of losing everything he holds dear.
Ordinary Decent Criminal received mixed reviews from critics, but was praised for its strong performances and comedic tone. The film also features a notable soundtrack, which includes songs by Van Morrison, The Undertones, and Thin Lizzy.
