Boog is a happy-go-lucky grizzly bear who lives in the forest with his friends, a motley crew of woodland animals including Elliot, a timid deer. When Boog is disappointed that his friends have decided to stay home for their annual guy's trip, he sets out on a solo adventure that leads him to a nearby circus.
At the circus, Boog is mistaken for a look-alike circus bear who is up to no good. He is thrown into the middle of the circus ring, where he meets a beautiful Russian acrobat named Ursa. Ursa is drawn to Boog's gentle nature and the two form a bond.
Meanwhile, Elliot and the gang realize their mistake in choosing their family obligations over their friendship with Boog and set out to find him. Along the way, they encounter a shady group of animals who are plotting to take over the circus.
Boog and Ursa team up with Elliot and the gang to put a stop to the animal's evil plans and save the circus. In the end, Boog learns that family and friendship are both important and that he doesn't have to choose between the two.
