Only is a post-apocalyptic love story that takes place in a world where a virus released by a passing comet has wiped out all the women, leaving men alone and desperate in their struggle for survival. In this bleak new world, a young couple, Will (played by Leslie Odom Jr.) and Eva (Freida Pinto), are one of the few remaining pairs and we follow their journey from the beginning of the outbreak to the end of their story.
The film begins with Will and Eva living in an apartment in the city where they have isolated themselves out of fear for the virus that is infecting and killing all women. Will spends most of his time practicing his violin, while Eva works on her art. They only leave the apartment when necessary, and always wear protective masks and gloves, avoiding contact with other people.
As time goes on, the couple's relationship begins to strain under the anxious and over-sterilized environment they have created for themselves. They finally decide to pack up their things and venture out into the world in search of a more fulfilling life. But the world outside is even more dangerous than they imagined, with violent "hunters" on the loose seeking to capture the remaining women.
After surviving several harrowing encounters with these savages, Will and Eva finally make it to a remote cabin in the woods where they can spend their last few days together, free from worries about the virus and the savages. Here they have one final intimate experience, knowing that the end of their relationship is near.
In the end, Only is a tragic and enthralling film about the lengths we go to for love, even under the most extreme of circumstances. Their love is pure and truly tested throughout this film, making Only a powerful portrayal of just how far people are willing to go to be with the ones they love.
