The film was released in 1996 and directed by Michael Hoffman. George Clooney played the role of Jack Taylor and Michelle Pfeiffer played Melanie Parker. The supporting cast included Mae Whitman, who played Maggie, and Alex D. Linz, who played Sammy.
The movie takes place over the course of a single day, during which Melanie and Jack struggle to balance their work responsibilities with taking care of their children. Along the way, they bond over shared experiences as single parents, and slowly start to develop feelings for one another.
The original concept for the film was to make a gender-reversed version of the classic romantic comedy, "The Philadelphia Story." However, the script evolved into a more modern-day story about single parenthood, and the challenges that come with that.
One Fine Day received generally positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing over $97 million worldwide. The film's theme song, "For the First Time" by Kenny Loggins, was also a hit, and earned Loggins a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
