One Crazy Summer is a comedy film directed by Savage Steve Holland. The film follows the story of a teenage cartoonist, Hoops McCann (played by John Cusack) who is struggling with his own personal demons. The story is set during the summer holidays after Hoops fails to get into college.
Hoops and his best friend, George Calamari (played by Joel Murray), decide to take a road trip to Nantucket Island where they plan to spend the summer and hopefully find inspiration for Hoops' cartoons. But their plans take a turn when they meet Cassandra Eldridge (played by Demi Moore), a beautiful and talented singer trying to save her family's property from a group of developers.
Hoops and Cassandra develop a close relationship, and he becomes caught up in her family's financial troubles. In an attempt to help her, Hoops and his friends compete in a boat race to win enough money to save Cassandra's home.
Throughout the film, Hoops also deals with his own personal struggles such as his relationship with his girlfriend, his strained relationship with his parents, and his internal battle with his artistic talents.
