Once Upon a Time in Shanghai is a 2014 Chinese martial arts film directed by Wong Ching-Po and starring Philip Ng, Sammo Hung, and Andy On. The movie is a remake of the classic 1972 film The Boxer From Shantung. The story follows a young laborer named Ma Yongzhen who moves to Shanghai during the 1930s in search of a better life and to escape poverty. However, circumstances force him to use his kung fu skills to survive in the dangerous and corrupt city.

Ma Yongzhen arrives in Shanghai with his friend Tie Lankui and they begin working for a local gangster named Long Qi. Ma's martial arts skills soon become apparent and he earns the respect of Long Qi and his henchmen. However, Ma soon discovers that Long Qi is involved in illegal activities and decides to leave the gang. This decision puts Ma's life in danger as Long Qi sends his top assassin, Huang Liang, to kill Ma.

Ma gets help from a beautiful nightclub singer named Tie Ju, who is also the sister of his friend Tie Lankui. Tie Ju and Ma develop a romantic relationship and she helps him evade Long Qi's attempts to kill him. Ma's reputation as a skilled fighter grows and he becomes involved with other gangs, including the rival gang of Long Qi.

The fighting in the movie is intense and well choreographed, featuring traditional kung fu moves mixed with modern techniques. The story also has elements of romance and drama as Ma struggles to survive in the corrupt underworld of Shanghai.

Overall, Once Upon a Time in Shanghai is a thrilling and entertaining remake of a classic kung fu film. The performances by Philip Ng, Sammo Hung, and Andy On are impressive, and the cinematography captures the atmosphere of 1930s Shanghai.
