In the film, Once Upon a Time in China II, Wong Fei-Hung returns as the hero of the story, once again played by Jet Li. As the synopsis suggests, Wong faces off against the White Lotus society, a group of fanatics who are determined to rid China of any Western influence, using violent means if necessary. The society is opposed not only to the Europeans who are establishing a foothold in China at the time, but also to many Chinese who have embraced Western culture and ideas.

The military is tasked with keeping the peace and maintaining order in the province, but many of the soldiers are corrupt and in league with the White Lotus. Wong must navigate this complex web of allegiances and motives, all while attempting to protect his friends and allies.
One of these allies is Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who was a real-life revolutionary and political leader in China at the turn of the 20th century. In the film, Dr. Sun is targeted by the White Lotus because of his association with Western ideas and his calls for political reform. Wong must protect him from assassination attempts and other dangers, even as he himself is drawn into the conflict.
Throughout the film, Wong relies on his martial arts skills and his unyielding sense of justice to battle the White Lotus and their allies. Along the way, he also grapples with ethical questions about violence and his own place in a changing world. Ultimately, Wong emerges victorious, but not before facing some of his toughest challenges yet.
