Once In The Desert is a Russian war drama, directed by Mikhail Kalatozov. The film was released in 2017 and became the first Russian feature to be shot in Syria. It stars Mariya Mironova, Yuriy Borisov, and Irina Kupchenko.
The story begins with a team of Syrian EOD experts, who are tasked with clearing the ancient city of Palmyra of explosive devices left behind by ISIS militants. Despite their differences, the team perseveres, meticulously defusing one explosive device after another. However, when the captain goes missing during an ambush, the sapper takes charge, risking her own life to search for him in the war-torn city.
The film provides a gripping portrayal of the realities of war, highlighting the bravery of those who risk their lives to protect others.
