On the Riviera is a 1951 musical comedy film directed by Walter Lang and starring Danny Kaye, Gene Tierney, and Corinne Calvet. Kaye plays both Jack Martin, an American entertainer who impersonates Henri Duran, a womanizing French industrialist, and Duran himself. Gene Tierney plays the wealthy Mrs. Fenwick, who is pursuing Duran, and Corinne Calvet plays Nicole, the nightclub singer with whom Martin/Duran falls in love.
The film is a remake of the 1935 film Folies Bergere, but with several changes to the plot and characters. The story takes place at the famous French Riviera resort in Nice, where Jack Martin is hired to perform at a nightclub. When he meets the real Henri Duran, he is mistaken for the industrialist and is pursued by Mrs. Fenwick, who wants to invest in Duran's business. To complicate matters, Nicole discovers Martin's impersonation and threatens to expose him unless he helps her get a job in America.
The film features Danny Kaye's trademark comedy style, including physical comedy, rapid-fire dialogue, and musical numbers. It was a box-office success and received positive reviews for Kaye's performance, the scenic locations, and the glamorous costumes. The film's theme song, "Love is Just Around the Corner," became a hit and was featured in later films and TV shows. On the Riviera remains a popular example of the Hollywood musical genre from the 1950s.
