On Golden Pond is a 1981 drama film directed by Mark Rydell, based on the play of the same name by Ernest Thompson. The movie follows Norman and Ethel Thayer, an aging couple who spend their summers at their lake house on Golden Pond in Maine. Norman is a retired English professor with a sharp wit and a tendency to be gruff, while Ethel is a warm and supportive wife who balances out his cynicism.
Their daughter Chelsea, who is estranged from her father, comes to visit them with her fiancé and his teenage son.
