On a Clear Day You Can See Forever is a 1970 musical film directed by Vincente Minnelli. The story revolves around Daisy Gamble, a woman who is trying to quit smoking through hypnotherapy. However, under hypnosis, Daisy discovers that she has a knack for psychometry and other psychic abilities.
Dr. Marc Chabot, the psychiatrist treating Daisy, becomes intrigued by her psychic abilities and decides to experiment further. He hypnotizes Daisy and takes her through past lives where she is shown as different characters with different names and personalities.
During one of her past lives, Daisy is revealed to be a wealthy Englishwoman named Melinda Tentrees who lived in the 18th century. Melinda had a love affair with a painter named Edward Moncrief and had to leave him for political reasons.
As Daisy's sessions continue, Dr. Chabot and Daisy start to develop feelings for each other. However, Daisy's present self is engaged to Warren, who is not supportive of her psychic abilities.
The film ends with Daisy's hypnosis sessions coming to an end, and she starts to regain her old personality, which includes her smoking habit. Dr. Chabot tries to persuade Daisy to embrace her psychic abilities, but she refuses, choosing to live a "normal" life with Warren.
The film features musical numbers throughout, including the hit song "On a Clear Day (You Can See Forever)," performed by Barbra Streisand, who played Daisy in the film.
