Om Shanti Om is a colorful, energetic Bollywood film that pays tribute to the golden era of Hindi cinema in the 1970s. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan as Om Prakash Makhija, a junior artist dreaming of making it big in the film industry. Om is in love with his co-star Shanti Priya (played by Deepika Padukone), but she is already engaged to a wealthy film producer.
One day, while trying to save Shanti from a fire on the film set, Om is killed. However, as soon as he dies, he is immediately reincarnated in the present day as Om Kapoor, a successful film actor who discovers that he has memories of his past life. He sets out to uncover the truth about his death and reunite with Shanti.
Along the way, Om Kapoor copes with the challenges of being a Bollywood celebrity, deals with a shady producer named Mukesh Mehra (played by Arjun Rampal), and becomes entangled in a complicated web of secrets and betrayal. As he pieces together the mystery of his past, he realizes that he must seek forgiveness and reconcile with those he has wronged in order to move on.
