Ocean Heaven is a 2010 Chinese drama film directed by Xue Xiaolu, starring Jet Li and Wen Zhang. It tells the story of Sam Wong (played by Jet Li), a single father who works as a water-park janitor while taking care of his autistic son Dafu (played by Wen Zhang). Dafu is obsessed with ocean life and can hardly communicate with others, making it difficult for him to function in society.
Sam is diagnosed with cancer and given only a few months to live. Determined to make sure his son can live independently after he is gone, Sam sets out to teach Dafu the necessary life skills he will need, such as cooking, cleaning, and crossing the street safely. He also tries to find a way to ensure Dafu will be looked after when he is gone, from enlisting the help of a kind neighbor (played by Kwai Lun-mei) to finding a potential caregiver in a special needs facility.
Through heartwarming scenes and emotionally charged moments, Ocean Heaven portrays the depth of a father's love for his son and the sacrifices he is willing to make for his offspring. It is a touching tribute to parenthood and the many challenges, joys, and rewards that come with raising a child with special needs.
