In the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the three main characters, Ulysses Everett McGill (played by George Clooney), Pete Hogwallop (played by John Turturro), and Delmar O'Donnell (played by Tim Blake Nelson), escape from a chain gang in Mississippi and set out to find a hidden treasure that Ulysses claims to have buried before his incarceration.

As they make their way across the rural landscape, they encounter various obstacles and colorful characters, including a blind prophet who foretells their fate, a group of singing sirens who tempt them, a corrupt politician who tries to use them for his own gain, and a one-eyed Bible salesman who joins them on their journey.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Cooley (played by Daniel von Bargen) is hot on their trail, determined to capture the fugitives and return them to prison. The comedic and often absurd situations that the trio find themselves in as they continue their quest for treasure make for a wild and entertaining ride.

Throughout the film, there are numerous references to Homer's 'Odyssey', including parallels between the characters and events in the ancient Greek epic. Ultimately, the journey of Ulysses, Pete, and Delmar becomes a modern-day odyssey of self-discovery and redemption.
