The team of illusionists, known as "The Four Horsemen," consists of charismatic leader Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), escape artist Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher), mentalist Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), and street magician Jack Wilder (Dave Franco). The FBI agent, Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo), and Interpol detective, Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent), are assigned to the case of tracking down The Four Horsemen as they continue to perform increasingly elaborate heists across the globe.
As Dylan and Alma work to capture the elusive group, they also begin to uncover a larger conspiracy at play. The mastermind behind The Four Horsemen's actions is revealed to be Arthur Tressler (Michael Caine), a wealthy businessman who has a personal vendetta against Dylan. Tressler hires Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman), a former magician turned skeptic, to help expose the secrets behind The Four Horsemen's illusions.
As tensions rise and more heists are pulled off, Dylan and Alma struggle to keep up with The Four Horsemen's complex plans. Along the way, they must also confront their own personal demons and betrayal within their respective agencies.
