Not Okay is a psychological thriller that follows the life of an aspiring influencer, Katie, who is trying to make a name for herself on social media. Despite her best efforts, Katie's posts aren't gaining the traction she desires. After a particularly disappointing day, Katie decides to fabricate a trip to Paris to enhance her social media presence.
Katie starts posting pictures and videos from the beautiful city of Paris, complete with Eiffel Tower selfies, fancy food spreads, and luxurious hotel stays. Her followers are thrilled and her numbers begin to skyrocket. However, things take a dark turn when a real-world tragedy occurs in Paris, and it soon becomes a part of Katie's imaginary trip.
As Katie's lies begin to spiral out of control, she is soon forced to confront the moral implications of her actions. The situation becomes even more complicated when her followers become obsessed with the story, as much of a nightmare as it is. Katie must decide whether to come clean about her deception, or continue to enjoy the attention and fame that has resulted from her fake trip to Paris.
The film stars Sydney Sweeney as Katie, and the cast also includes Adan Canto, Mika Abdalla, and Madison Pettis. Not Okay is directed by Quinn Shephard and produced by John Malkovich. The film explores the dangers of our obsession with social media and how it can warp our sense of reality.
