North West Mounted Police is a 1940 American Western film directed by Cecil B. DeMille and starring Gary Cooper and Madeleine Carroll. The film is loosely based on events surrounding the North-West Rebellion of 1885 in Canada. The movie was a big-budget production, filmed on location in Alberta, Canada, and featured a cast of thousands, including hundreds of extras recruited from local indigenous communities.

The story follows Texas Ranger Dusty Rivers (Gary Cooper) as he travels to Canada to bring back a wanted criminal, Jacques Corbeau (George Bancroft). Along the way, he falls in love with nurse April Logan (Madeleine Carroll), who is also being pursued by Mountie Jim Brett (Preston Foster).

As Rivers chases Corbeau through the rugged Canadian wilderness, he becomes embroiled in the Riel Rebellion, a conflict between Métis and indigenous people and the Canadian government. Rivers must navigate his way through the tumultuous political landscape while also dealing with the personal drama unfolding between himself, April and Jim.

The film features several spectacular set pieces, including a climactic battle between the rebels and the Mounties on the Canadian plains. DeMille's meticulous attention to detail and epic staging make the most of the stunning Canadian landscape, which serves as an integral backdrop to the action.

While North West Mounted Police is not one of DeMille's most well-known films, it remains a classic example of the epic, historical genre he was famous for, and showcases some of the greatest stars of the era at the height of their careers.
