Nine to Five

Comedy  United States of America

Nine to Five is a comedy film released in 1980 and directed by Colin Higgins. The movie follows the story of three female office workers, Violet Newstead (Lily Tomlin), Doralee Rhodes (Dolly Parton), and Judy Bernly (Jane Fonda), who work under their chauvinistic and sexist boss, Franklin M. Hart Jr. (Dabney Coleman).

Hart frequently mistreats his female employees, sexually harasses them, and takes credit for their work. The three women dream of getting back at him and one day, they manage to trap Hart in his own house, where they accidentally smoke weed and then proceed to tie him up, believing he had a heart attack.

With Hart out of the office, the three women take control of the department and implement significant changes that improve productivity and boost employee morale. They introduce more flexibility in work schedules, implement job-sharing, and even set up a daycare center for the employees' children.

Meanwhile, Hart's absence from the office attracts the attention of the company's CEO, who believes that he has been hospitalized due to overworking. Hart's absence from work leads to his personal assistant Roz (played by Elizabeth Wilson) trying to control the situation, but her attempts to fill in only make matters worse.

Despite the positive changes they implement, the women eventually discover that Hart is attempting to sabotage their efforts, and they must try to regain control of the department and exact revenge on their boss. With the help of their colleagues, they pull off a daring plan to expose Hart's misdeeds and bring him to justice.

Nine to Five was a box office success and became the highest-grossing comedy film of 1980. The film's theme song, also titled "Nine to Five," was written and performed by Dolly Parton and became a hit single. The film remains a popular example of a feminist workplace comedy, highlighting the struggles of working women and the issues of sexual harassment in the workplace.
