Night of the Creeps opens with a prologue set in 1959 on a spaceship where an alien experiment breaks out of its containment and crashes to earth. The experiment is a canister containing an alien slug-like parasite that infects a young man and turns him into a zombie-like creature.
Cut to the present day and we are introduced to Chris and his friend J.C, two college nerds looking to pledge a fraternity. They come across a hidden laboratory where they discover the frozen body of the young man infected by the alien parasite. They unintentionally thaw the body which causes the parasite to revive and infect a nearby cat.
As the parasites begin to spread, students on campus start to transform into zombie-like creatures. Detective Ray Cameron, a grizzled and alcoholic cop, investigates the strange occurrences and teams up with Chris and J.C to stop the infestation.
The trio discovers that the alien parasite reproduces by sending out smaller parasites, which then enter new hosts and transform them into zombies. The only way to kill the parasitic creatures is with fire, which leads the group on a high-stakes mission to save the campus.
The film is a homage to classic 1950s horror films while also featuring elements of sci-fi and comedy. Written and directed by Fred Dekker, Night of the Creeps has become a cult favorite amongst horror fans thanks to its mix of gruesome zombies and humorous dialogue.
