Night Key is a 1937 film directed by Lloyd Corrigan and starring Boris Karloff, Warren Hull, and Jean Rogers. The main character, David Mallory (played by Karloff), is an inventor who has created a new and advanced burglar alarm system that is virtually impossible to bypass. Mallory is able to prove the effectiveness of his system by breaking into a wealthy businessman's mansion and successfully stealing his valuables without tripping the alarm.
However, Mallory soon finds himself in a dangerous situation when a group of robbers kidnaps him and threatens him to help them commit a series of high-profile robberies using his revolutionary burglar alarm system. The leader of the gang, Ned Turner (played by Hull), is a former associate of Mallory who believes that he deserves a share of the profits from Mallory's invention.
Mallory tries his best to resist the gang's demands, but eventually gives in to their threats and helps them with the robberies. However, he secretly inserts a flaw in the system that will enable the police to catch the gang when they attempt to rob a rich socialite's home.
In the end, the gang's plan is foiled and Mallory is hailed as a hero for his quick thinking and ingenuity. He reunites with his wife, who is grateful to have him back safe and sound. The film ends with Mallory promising to continue his work as an inventor and to use his skills for the betterment of society.
