Night in Paradise is a 2020 South Korean crime drama film that follows the story of Tae-gu, a gangster who has been living a dangerous and violent life. However, when his sister and nephew become sick, he decides to leave his life of crime behind and take care of them.
Tae-gu moves to Jeju Island with his family, hoping for a fresh start. He meets a young woman named Jae-yeon, who becomes his companion and confidant. Tae-gu finds solace in fishing and develops a bond with a young boy named Ho-sun, who teaches him about life outside of the criminal world.
However, things take a dark turn when Tae-gu's new life is threatened by a rival gang. In a case of mistaken identity, his sister and nephew are tragically killed, leaving Tae-gu devastated. In a fit of rage, he decides to take revenge on those responsible.
As Tae-gu sets out on his vengeful mission, he must face the consequences of his past actions and the dangers of his present ones. The film explores themes of redemption, loyalty, and the cost of violence.
Night in Paradise was directed by Park Hoon-jung and stars Um Tae-goo, Jeon Yeo-been, and Cha Seung-won. It premiered on Netflix on April 9, 2021.
