In Nice Dreams, Cheech and Chong play their iconic stoner characters who get hired to house sit for a wealthy marijuana grower named Sven (played by Paul Reubens, aka Pee-wee Herman). Instead of just watching over the plants, however, the duo decide to take some for themselves and start selling it on the streets of Los Angeles.
Their antics attract the attention of two bumbling police officers (played by Stacy Keach and Tom Skerritt) who are determined to bust the "nice dreams" operation. Cheech and Chong also encounter a variety of oddball characters during their escapades, including a sultry lounge singer, a wild party host, and a mystical drug dealer.
Meanwhile, Sven becomes increasingly paranoid about his missing crop and hires a hitman to track down the thieves. All of these plot threads collide in a chaotic finale that involves a high-speed chase, a hijacked ice cream truck, and plenty of marijuana smoke.
Nice Dreams is one of several comedy films starring Cheech and Chong that became cult classics in the 1970s and 80s. It was directed by Tommy Chong himself and features the duo's trademark blend of irreverent humor and drug culture references.
