New Order

Drama  Mexico

New Order is a Mexican dystopian thriller film that was directed and co-written by Michel Franco. The film is set in the near future within a society that is torn by economic inequality, a corrupt government, and civil unrest.

The movie's plot revolves around a wedding that is held at the home of a wealthy family, just as a popular uprising breaks out in Mexico City. The guests are soon forced to take shelter inside the mansion as they wait for the military to restore order. However, once the chaos has subsided, the family discovers that the bride, Marianne, has been abducted along with other people.

The family then embarks on a desperate hunt for Marianne, who has been taken by a group of young protesters as part of a wider scheme to bring down the corrupt ruling class. As they set out to find her, they are forced to confront the reality of their privileged lives and the extent to which they have been complicit in perpetuating the very same system that the protesters are fighting against.

The film highlights themes of class conflict, social upheaval, and the consequences of unchecked power and privilege. It features a talented cast of actors, including Naian Gonzalez Norvind, Diego Boneta, and Dario Yazbek Bernal. New Order premiered at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the grand jury prize.
