New Nightmare is a 1994 American meta horror film directed by Wes Craven and written by himself and Bruce Wagner. It is the seventh installment in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. The movie is set several years after the events of the previous Nightmare film, and follows actress Heather Langenkamp, who portrayed the protagonist Nancy Thompson in the first Nightmare film.
In the film, Heather begins to have strange nightmares and experiences that seem to be tied to the fictional character of Freddy Krueger, who she portrayed in the original film. Her young son, Dylan, also begins to have disturbing dreams and behaviors, leading Heather to believe that the demon that influenced the creation of the Freddy character may be trying to enter the real world through them.
As the nightmarish events escalate, Heather learns that the demon is using Freddy as a vessel to enter the real world and wreak havoc. With the help of her husband and fellow Elm Street actor, Chase Porter, Heather tries to fight off the demonic entity and save her family.
New Nightmare not only pays homage to the iconic Freddy Krueger character and film series, but also examines the blurred lines between reality and fiction in horror storytelling. The film features appearances by several actors and crew members from the previous Nightmare films, including Robert Englund as himself and Freddy Krueger. The movie was praised for its originality and self-referential approach, and has since become a cult classic among horror movie fans.
