Josie Geller (played by Drew Barrymore) is a talented copywriter who is given her big break at the Chicago Sun-Times when she is tasked with writing an article about contemporary teenage culture. However, the only way she can do this is by going undercover as a student at her old high school.
Despite struggling to fit in at first, Josie soon finds herself accepted into the popular crowd thanks to her stylish new look and her charismatic brother Rob (David Arquette). Josie soon finds herself drawn to her English teacher, Sam Coulson (Michael Vartan), but is torn between her growing feelings for him and her desire to complete her assignment.
As Josie delves deeper into the world of high school, she uncovers a series of secrets and scandals that threaten to derail her investigation and ruin her chances of ever fitting in.
