Dreamy Chaos: Fairy Love Triangle

N/A  United Kingdom

National Theatre Live: A Midsummer Night's Dream is a live recording of a theatrical production based on the play by William Shakespeare. The play is directed by Nicholas Hytner and stars Gwendoline Christie, Olivia Ross, David Moorst, Hammed Animashaun, and more.

The story is set in an enchanted forest outside Athens where a fairy kingdom, ruled by Oberon and Titania, is in turmoil. The two are fighting over a young Indian prince whom Titania has taken under her protection. As they continue to bicker, Oberon decides to take revenge on Titania and plans to make her fall in love with a mortal.

Meanwhile, four lovers - Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena - run away to the woods to escape the law of Athens, which forbids Hermia from marrying Lysander. In the midst of the chaos, the mischievous fairy Puck is sent on a mission by Oberon to enchant the wrong lovers, causing them to fall in love with the wrong people and triggering hilarious and dramatic consequences.

The play also features a group of amateur actors, or mechanicals, who are rehearsing a play to perform at the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta. Their comical antics add to the chaos and confusion in the forest.

Overall, National Theatre Live: A Midsummer Night's Dream is a whimsical and magical tale of love, desire, and mischief.
