Scott and Mara are a wealthy couple with a young daughter who recently experienced a traumatic break-in. In order to feel safe in their own home again, they invest in a state-of-the-art security system that allows them to control everything from their lights and thermostat to their security cameras and door locks remotely.
As they search for a new nanny to help care for their daughter, they come across Rachel, a seemingly perfect candidate who impresses them with her qualifications and experience. After a thorough background check, they hire her and give her the pass codes to their security system so that she can easily come and go as needed.
But things take a turn for the worse when Scott and Mara start noticing strange things happening in their home. Lights are turning on and off at odd times, the temperature is fluctuating, and their security cameras are being disabled for seemingly no reason. They initially brush it off as a glitch in their system, but soon come to realize that someone is intentionally tampering with their smart home from the inside.
