The movie Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang is a sequel to the 2005 film Nanny McPhee. Like its predecessor, the film is based on the character created by Christianna Brand in her Nurse Matilda books.
The film stars Emma Thompson as Nanny McPhee, a magical nanny who uses her supernatural abilities to teach children valuable life lessons. In this movie, Nanny McPhee is summoned to a farm owned by Mrs. Isabel Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a frazzled mother of three who is struggling to keep the farm going while her husband is away at war.
The children – Norman, Megsie, and Vincent – are bickering and fighting with their two spoiled city cousins, Cyril and Celia Gray (played by Eros Vlahos and Rosie Taylor-Ritson). Cyril and Celia are staying with the Greens while their mother, Mrs. Docherty (Maggie Smith), attends to her sick sister.
As the children continue their feud, strange things begin to happen on the farm. A flying motorcycle appears, a statue comes to life, and a baby elephant appears out of nowhere. Nanny McPhee knows that these bizarre occurrences are caused by the children's bad behavior, and she sets out to teach them five valuable lessons.
Over the course of the movie, Nanny McPhee uses her magical powers to help the children learn to work together, share, and be kind to one another. Meanwhile, Mrs. Green must deal with the arrival of her husband's snobby and condescending brother Phil (played by Rhys Ifans), who has come to criticize her farming techniques.
As the film reaches its climax, the Greens and the Grays must band together to deal with a crisis that threatens the safety of everyone on the farm. Through it all, Nanny McPhee remains a calming influence, helping the children navigate the challenges of growing up and teaching them the importance of sticking together as a family.
