Nancy, a young woman in her late 20s, finds herself increasingly convinced that she was kidnapped as a child and that her parents are not her real parents. She obsessively searches online for missing children who resemble her and begins to imagine scenarios of how she could have been taken. Despite her therapist's insistence that these feelings are a result of unresolved trauma and not actual memories, Nancy cannot let go of her belief.
One day, Nancy comes across an article about a couple whose daughter went missing thirty years ago. The couple, played by J. Smith-Cameron and Steve Buscemi, are still searching for their daughter and have never given up hope. Nancy becomes fixated on the case, convinced that she is that missing daughter. She contacts the couple and slowly begins to insert herself into their lives, claiming to have memories of being their daughter.
As Nancy's relationship with the couple deepens, the reasonable doubts they may have had about her identity begin to give way to willful belief. But as the truth is slowly revealed, Nancy must come to terms with the real reason for her obsession with being kidnapped and confront the consequences of her actions.
