Mystic River is a 2003 American crime drama film directed by Clint Eastwood. It is based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane. The film stars Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Kevin Bacon as childhood friends from Boston's working-class neighbourhood of East Buckingham.
The story follows the lives of Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn), Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon), and Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins), who grew up together but have since gone their separate ways. Jimmy is a former convict who now runs a corner store, Sean is a detective with the Massachusetts State Police, and Dave is a carpenter and family man.
