Mystic Pizza is a 1988 coming-of-age movie directed by Donald Petrie. The film tells the story of three teenage girls; Kat, Daisy, and Jojo, who are navigating their lives in a small town in Connecticut while working at a local pizza parlor called Mystic Pizza.
Kat (Annabeth Gish) is a studious and reserved girl who dreams of going to Yale and becoming a successful businesswoman. She falls in love with a wealthy man named Tim (William R. Moses) who she believes is her ticket out of Mystic.
Daisy (Julia Roberts) is a free-spirited and adventurous girl who falls in love with a married man named Charles (Adam Storke). She decides to leave Mystic to start a new life with him.
Jojo (Lili Taylor) is a rebellious girl who has a turbulent relationship with her boyfriend Bill (Vincent D'Onofrio). She eventually realizes that her dreams are more important than her relationship, and enrolls in beauty school.
As the three girls navigate their personal and professional lives, their experiences at Mystic Pizza teach them the importance of friendship, family, and following their dreams.
Beyond the main characters, Mystic Pizza also showcases the tight-knit community of the town of Mystic, including the local fishermen and the Portuguese immigrant community. The film was a sleeper hit and launched the careers of both Julia Roberts and Lili Taylor.
