A Week with Marilyn: A Fascination Unveiled

Drama  United Kingdom

My Week with Marilyn is a 2011 British biographical film, directed by Simon Curtis and written by Adrian Hodges. The film is based on Colin Clark's books, The Prince, the Showgirl and Me and My Week with Marilyn, which chronicle Clark's experiences working as an assistant on the set of the 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl, which starred Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier.

Eddie Redmayne stars as Colin Clark, a recent graduate of Eton College who is eager to break into the film industry. He lands a job as a third assistant director on The Prince and the Showgirl, where he meets Marilyn Monroe, played by Michelle Williams.

From the moment Marilyn arrives in London, she is constantly hounded by reporters and fans. Her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller is on the rocks, and she is insecure about her acting abilities. Laurence Olivier, played by Kenneth Branagh, is frustrated by Marilyn's erratic behavior and her inability to remember her lines.

As Colin gets to know Marilyn, he becomes her confidant and friend. He accompanies her on outings around London, and she asks him to read lines with her in her hotel room. Marilyn is impressed by Colin's youth and innocence, and seeks his advice on her acting. They have a brief romance, but Marilyn ultimately returns to Miller.

My Week with Marilyn was praised for its performances, particularly Williams' portrayal of Marilyn Monroe. The film received two Academy Award nominations: one for Williams for Best Actress, and one for Branagh for Best Supporting Actor.
