My Life Without Me is a touching drama from acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar. The film follows Ann (Sarah Polley), a young woman who discovers that she has terminal ovarian cancer and only two months left to live. Instead of telling her family about her illness, Ann decides to make a list of things she wants to do before she dies.
The movie opens with Ann recording her thoughts on a cassette tape, which she intends to give to her family after she dies. She also starts a secret double life, taking on a lover (Mark Ruffalo) and applying for a loan to build a room in her backyard where she can spend her final days in peace.
As she goes about ticking off items on her list, Ann begins to realize how precious life is, and how much she has been taking for granted. She reaches out to the people she loves and tries to mend fences with her estranged mother (Deborah Harry).
My Life Without Me is a poignant exploration of life, love, and death. It's a beautifully shot film with a great cast of actors, all of whom give powerful performances. Through Ann's journey, we see how the prospect of death can bring clarity and purpose to life, and how we should cherish every moment we have.
