My Girl is a coming-of-age film that was released in 1991, directed by Howard Zieff, and written by Laurice Elehwany. The movie stars Anna Chlumsky as Vada Sultenfuss, Macaulay Culkin as Thomas J., Dan Aykroyd as Harry Sultenfuss, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Shelly DeVoto.

The story takes place during the summer of 1972 in the fictional town of Madison, Pennsylvania. Vada is an 11-year-old girl who lives with her widowed father, Harry, who runs a funeral parlor. Vada is obsessed with death and often attends funerals just for the experience.

Vada's main goal in life is to impress her English teacher, Mr. Bixler, who she is secretly in love with. Over the summer, Mr. Bixler organizes a poetry class for his students, and Vada signs up just to get closer to him.

Her best friend, Thomas J., is a boy who is allergic to everything, including bees. Despite their differences, Vada and Thomas J. are very close and spend most of their time together exploring the town.

Things take a turn for the worse when Vada's father hires Shelly, a make-up artist who begins to work at the funeral parlor. Harry and Shelly start to fall for each other, and Vada becomes jealous and resentful towards her. Vada also starts to discover some family secrets that her father has been keeping from her, which makes her even more emotional.

The climax of the movie occurs when Thomas J. goes to collect some items from a nearby forest where they were stung by bees earlier in the movie. Unfortunately, Thomas J. is stung by several bees and has an allergic reaction that results in his death. Vada is heartbroken by this loss and struggles to come to terms with her emotions.

In the end, Vada learns to cope with her grief, and finally becomes comfortable with the fact that death is a natural part of life. She also learns to appreciate the people around her who truly care for her, such as her father and her grandmother. The movie ends with Vada reading a poem she has written for Thomas J. at his funeral, showing that she has finally found some peace and closure.
