My Girl 2 is a coming-of-age comedy-drama film released in 1994. The movie is a sequel to the 1991 film My Girl and stars Anna Chlumsky as Vada Sultenfuss, a young girl from Pennsylvania who is now a teenager.
As mentioned in the synopsis, Vada's holiday assignment is to write an essay on someone she admires and has never met. Initially, she plans to write about a historical figure such as Sigmund Freud, but after discussing it with her best friend, Thomas J. Sennett (played by Macaulay Culkin), she decides to write about her mother, who died when she was a baby.
Vada decides to travel to Los Angeles to stay with her Uncle Phil (played by Richard Masur) and do some research on her mother. While there, she meets her mother's former best friend, Shelly DeVoto (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), who tells Vada stories about her mother. Vada also meets Nick Zsigmond (played by Austin O'Brien), who claims to have known her mother and offers to help her with her research.
Throughout the movie, Vada tries to uncover the truth about her mother and her relationships with the people in her life. She starts to understand her mother better and learns to appreciate the people in her own life more, including her father and her best friend.
My Girl 2 explores Vada's journey of self-discovery, as well as her struggle to come to terms with her mother's death. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $17 million at the box office.
