My Bodyguard is a 1980 coming-of-age drama film directed by Tony Bill and written by Alan Ormsby. It stars Chris Makepeace, Adam Baldwin, Matt Dillon, and Ruth Gordon. The film follows the story of Clifford Peach, a new student at a Chicago high school. Clifford is constantly bullied by the other students and is forced to pay them for his safety. He refuses to pay and instead hires an overgrown, troubled classmate named Linderman to be his bodyguard.

Linderman is seen as an outcast by the other students due to his size and intimidating presence. As their friendship grows, Clifford gradually learns of the reasons why Linderman is so detached from the rest of the students and the world around him. Clifford helps Linderman confront his personal demons while also building his own self-confidence.

Over time, Linderman's presence deters the bullies from targeting Clifford. The film climaxes at a school dance where Linderman and Clifford confront the bully in front of the whole school. The other students rally behind the pair, giving Clifford the courage to stand up to his tormentor and making peace with Linderman.

My Bodyguard was successful at the box office and received critical acclaim for its performances and writing. The film’s themes of bullying, friendship, and self-acceptance continue to resonate with audiences today.
