Murder 101 is a 1991 television movie directed by Bill Condon and starring Pierce Brosnan in the role of Dr. Jonathan Maxwell. The film is based on the novel "The Man Who Was Taller Than God" by Michael Stewart and was produced by MGM.
The movie opens with the murder of a wealthy businessman, Jonathan Brooks, who was killed in an explosion at his mansion. The police investigate the crime and discover that Brooks was the CEO of a financial institution involved in some illegal financial dealings.
At the same time, a young investigative reporter named Connie Sacks (played by Dey Young) is working undercover to get a story on the corporate scandal. She had befriended Brooks and had access to his company's internal documents.
The police suspect Connie of being involved in the murder as she was the last person to see Brooks alive. After being questioned by the police, Connie seeks the help of Dr. Jonathan Maxwell, a retired criminology professor, who happens to be a friend of hers.
Dr. Maxwell, along with his student assistant Mike Bryant (played by Eli Danker), begins to investigate the case. The duo uncovers a number of suspicious characters, including Brooks' wife, his business partner, and members of a secret club of rich and powerful people.
The plot thickens as the duo digs deeper, only to realize that the corporate fraud was much bigger than they initially thought. The twist in the tale comes when Dr. Maxwell finds out that his own life is in danger.
The film is a thriller that keeps the audience engaged till the very end. Pierce Brosnan's performance as the witty Dr. Maxwell is impressive, and he brings humor to the serious subject matter. Murder 101 is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
