The film follows Avner (played by Eric Bana), a Mossad agent tasked with leading the team responsible for avenging the deaths of the Israeli athletes. With the help of four other agents, Avner begins his mission by traveling to Europe to track down and assassinate the members of Black September responsible for the attack.
As they carry out their mission, the team begins to feel the weight of their actions and question the morality of their mission. Avner struggles with his conscience as he carries out increasingly violent and morally ambiguous acts, and begins to doubt whether his actions are truly serving the interests of his country.
Throughout the film, director Steven Spielberg uses powerful imagery and music to underscore the emotional weight of the story. The film's final scenes are particularly poignant, as Avner returns to Israel and confronts the true cost of his actions for himself and his family.
