Multiple Maniacs is a 1970 American dark comedy horror film written and directed by John Waters. The film follows Lady Divine (played by Waters' regular collaborator Divine) as she leads a traveling sideshow known as the Cavalcade of Perversion, which features bizarre and disturbing acts such as a man eating live mice and a woman who is sexually aroused by a rosary.
As the sideshow travels around, Lady Divine begins to unravel after discovering her lover, Mr. David (David Lochary), is having an affair with one of the performers. In response, Lady Divine goes on a killing spree, culminating in a chaotic rampage that sees several members of the troupe killed or mutilated.
The film is notable for its crude and shocking humor, as well as its willingness to depict taboo subjects such as sex, violence, and blasphemy. Despite this, Multiple Maniacs has since gained a cult following and is considered a classic of underground cinema.
