As Mulan and Shang prepare for their wedding and life together, they are interrupted by the Emperor's request for a mission. The mission is a diplomatic one, as the three princesses they must escort are to marry princes from distant lands to create alliances between their kingdoms. Mulan and Shang, along with their trusty companions Mushu and Cri-Kee, set out on their journey.
Along the way, Mulan and Shang discover that the three princesses are not happy about their impending marriages. They do not want to marry strangers, and they long to have the freedom to choose their own destinies. Mulan empathizes with the princesses and wishes to help them, but they are bound by duty to complete their mission.
As they journey through the countryside, Mushu becomes increasingly jealous of Mulan's relationship with Shang. He schemes to break them apart so that he can remain Mulan's guardian and avoid losing his job. Mushu's plans culminate in a fake note that he writes to Shang, supposedly from Mulan, telling him to meet her at a temple for a secret ceremony. When Shang goes to the temple, he finds that it is a trap set by Mushu and the princesses' suitor, who hope to capture Mulan and the other women.
Mulan and her friends manage to escape, but they are pursued by their enemies. In the final battle, Mulan and Shang fight bravely together to defeat their opponents. In the end, the princesses are able to choose their own destinies, and Mulan and Shang are married in a ceremony that celebrates their love and the bonds between their kingdoms.
Mulan II explores themes of duty and destiny, as well as the power of love to overcome obstacles and bring people together. It also features the beloved characters from the first film, such as the fierce and brave Mulan, the loyal and determined Shang, and the humorous and mischievous Mushu.
