Throughout the movie, Mr. Peabody struggles to keep his mermaid a secret, especially from his skeptical wife, who becomes increasingly suspicious of his odd behavior. He names the mermaid "Lenore" and tries to teach her English and assimilate her into human society.
As Mr. Peabody spends more time with Lenore, he begins to question his own feelings and desires, torn between his love for his wife and his newfound connection with the mysterious mermaid.
