The movie Mr. Malcolm's List is based on a novel by Suzanne Allain and is set in Regency-era London. Julia Thistlewaite, a young woman from a respectable family, is overjoyed when she receives a marriage proposal from London's most eligible bachelor, Mr. Malcolm. However, she is soon left heartbroken when he sends her a list of impossible demands that she must fulfill if she wants to be his bride.
Determined to prove Mr. Malcolm wrong, Julia and her best friend Selina Dalton hatch a plan to trick him. Selina will pretend to be the perfect bride and win his heart, only to reveal the truth and humiliate him in front of society.
As Selina ingratiates herself with Mr. Malcolm and his family, she begins to feel guilty about the deception. Meanwhile, Mr. Malcolm finds himself falling for Selina despite her failure to meet all of his requirements. When the truth is finally revealed, it remains to be seen whether Mr. Malcolm will forgive Selina and whether they can overcome the barriers of class and society to be together.
