In the movie Mothra, the shipwreck survivors inform the world about an island called Beiru, which they claim was safe from radiation due to the special juice given to them by the natives. A joint expedition comprising Rolithican and Japanese scientists is sent to explore the island, which was previously used for atomic tests.
As they explore the island, the scientists discover a strange egg, which they bring back to Japan. They soon realize that the egg belongs to a giant moth, which hatches and starts wreaking havoc on Japan. The scientists also discover two tiny women, known as the Shobijin, who claim to be from an island called Infant Island. They state that the giant moth, who they call Mothra, is a guardian of their island and is only attacking Japan because they took the egg.
The Japanese government tries to return the egg, but the greedy businessman Kumayama kidnaps the Shobijin and uses them as a sideshow attraction to make money. Mothra continues to attack Japan until the Shobijin are returned and the egg is returned to Infant Island.
In the end, Mothra lays another egg before dying, and the Shobijin reveal that their people will take care of the egg and the next Mothra. The movie ends with the Shobijin singing a beautiful song, paying homage to Mothra and Infant Island.
