Crime,Drama  United States of America

Motherless Brooklyn is a crime drama film directed by Edward Norton, who also stars in the lead role as Lionel Essrog. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Jonathan Lethem. Set in 1957, the story follows the character of Lionel, a detective working for Frank Minna's private investigation agency in New York City.

Lionel has Tourette syndrome, which makes him struggle with frequent uncontrollable tics and vocal outbursts. Lionel's world is turned upside down when Frank Minna (played by Bruce Willis), his mentor and father figure, is killed while investigating a shady government project. Lionel and his colleagues set out to investigate the murder and uncover a web of corruption involving powerful political figures and businessmen. Along the way, Lionel becomes romantically involved with Laura Rose (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), an idealistic lawyer working to expose the corruption.

The film features a talented ensemble cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Willem Dafoe, and Cherry Jones. The jazz-infused score by Daniel Pemberton adds to the film's atmospheric feel, taking viewers on a journey through the gritty streets of 1950's New York City. Motherless Brooklyn was praised for Norton's nuanced performance and its compelling exploration of themes such as power, corruption, and community.
