Mortal Thoughts is a 1991 thriller directed by Alan Rudolph and starring Demi Moore, Glenne Headly, and Bruce Willis. The movie is told in flashbacks as two women, Cynthia Kellogg (played by Moore) and Joyce Urbanski (played by Headly), are questioned by police about the murder of James Urbanski(played by Willis).

Cynthia and Joyce both worked together as hairdressers and were close friends. However, they also had a dark secret - they both hated James, Joyce's husband. James was an abusive alcoholic who frequently physically and verbally abused his wife. He also had a violent history with Cynthia, having once threatened to kill her.

The movie follows the events leading up to James' murder, as well as the aftermath as Cynthia and Joyce are questioned by police, each with their own version of events. It is revealed that Joyce had taken out a life insurance policy on James and that Cynthia had helped her plot his murder.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the women's friendship was plagued by jealousy, deceit, and betrayal, and that the murder was the result of their toxic dynamic. In a final twist, it is revealed that Cynthia had not actually killed James, but had planned his murder with Joyce, who was the true culprit.

Mortal Thoughts received mixed reviews upon its release but is often praised for the strong performances of its female leads.
