The young and ambitious producer named Becky Fuller (played by Rachel McAdams) is given the opportunity of a lifetime to produce a morning show called Daybreak at a struggling network called IBS. She is determined to revamp the show and bring back its glory, despite facing obstacles such as budget cuts and the old-fashioned network executive Jerry Barnes (Jeff Goldblum) who isn't fond of change.
Becky recruits the former news journalist and anchor named Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford) to co-host the show with the veteran presenter Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton), who dislikes working with anyone else. Mike, however, is against the idea of reporting on fluff pieces and celebrity gossip, and believes that the show should focus on hard-hitting news stories, which creates tension between him and Becky.
As they struggle to improve the show's ratings and win over their audiences, Becky and her team face numerous challenges, including technical difficulties during live broadcasts, in-fighting between the hosts, and the pressure to deliver breaking news stories.
