In Moon Over Parador, Jack Noah (played by Richard Dreyfuss) is a struggling actor who finds himself in a precarious situation when he is offered the chance to play the role of the recently deceased dictator of Parador, a fictional Latin American country ruled by a tyrant.

Roberto (played by Raul Julia), the dictator's right-hand man, convinces Jack to take the part, promising him riches beyond his wildest dreams. Jack agrees and is soon whisked away to a luxurious villa where he is trained to imitate the dictator's mannerisms and speech patterns.

As Jack begins to take on the role of the dictator, he realizes that he is in over his head. He struggles to maintain the facade in front of the public, while also trying to win the affection of the dictator's mistress, Madonna (played by Sonia Braga). Meanwhile, Roberto plots to use Jack as a pawn in his own political machinations.

As the days go by, Jack begins to question his own identity and morals. He is torn between his loyalty to the people of Parador and his desire for wealth and fame. Ultimately, Jack must decide whether to continue playing the part of the dictator, or risk everything to expose Roberto's corruption and stand up for what is right.
