Monsters, Inc. is an animated movie created by Pixar and directed by Pete Docter, David Silverman, and Lee Unkrich. The film was released in 2001 and became a box office success, grossing over $562 million worldwide. In addition to its commercial success, the movie also won several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a BAFTA Award for Best Animated Feature.

The movie takes place in the fictional city of Monstropolis, which is inhabited by monsters who generate energy by scaring children. The two main characters, James P. Sullivan (Sully) and Mike Wazowski, work as a team at Monsters, Inc., the largest power plant in the city. Sully is a large, furry blue monster with horns, while Mike is a small green monster with one big eye and skinny arms and legs.

Sully is the top "scarer" at Monsters, Inc., and he takes his job very seriously. He believes that scaring children is the only way to generate energy and keep the city running. Mike, on the other hand, is more of a comedian and enjoys making kids laugh rather than scaring them.

The plot of the movie begins when a young girl named Boo accidentally enters Monstropolis. Boo is a cute and innocent child who is afraid of the monsters that inhabit the city. Sully and Mike find themselves in a difficult situation, as they cannot let Boo return to the human world for fear that it would expose the existence of monsters. Yet, they also cannot allow her to stay in Monstropolis because it is against the company's policy.

As Sully and Mike try to find a way to return Boo to her world, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens the safety of all children. The villainous CEO of Monsters, Inc., Randall Boggs, has developed a new technology that can extract energy from screaming children without scaring them. However, this technology is highly dangerous and can harm children in the process.

Sully and Mike team up with Boo to stop Randall and prevent him from using the technology to harm children. Along the way, they discover the power of laughter and how it can be more effective than fear in generating energy. They also develop a close bond with Boo and realize that children are not something to be feared but rather something to be cherished and protected.

In the end, the three heroes successfully defeat Randall and save the children of Monstropolis. Monsters, Inc. undergoes a major change in policy, shifting from scare-based energy to laughter-based energy, and Sully becomes the new CEO of the company. The movie ends with Sully secretly visiting Boo in her room, hinting at a possible sequel.
