Molly is a young girl with a passion for adventure and a love for her country. Although she is not directly impacted by the war, she feels its effects in her everyday life. Her father is away serving in the military and her mother is working long hours in the local factory to support the war effort.
When an English girl named Emily comes to live with Molly's family to escape the bombings, Molly is initially hesitant to befriend her. However, as they spend more time together, Molly begins to see things from Emily's perspective and the two girls become fast friends.
Through their adventures together, including participating in a Victory Garden and raising money for war bonds, Molly learns about the sacrifices that are necessary to win the war. She also comes to appreciate the value of friendship and the importance of standing up for what is right.
As the war begins to come to an end, Molly's father returns home, and the family celebrates the victory. Through it all, Molly learns valuable lessons about resilience, perseverance, and the power of friendship and family.
