Modern Problems is a 1981 American comedy film directed by Ken Shapiro. The film follows the story of Max Fielder, an air traffic controller in Los Angeles who is dumped by his girlfriend, Darcy, after catching her cheating on him. Max's life takes a strange turn when he accidentally comes into contact with nuclear waste.
The radiation from the waste grants Max telekinetic powers. At first, he does not realize what is happening to him and thinks that he is losing his mind. But he soon realizes that he has the power to move objects with his mind.
Max puts his powers to use in a variety of ways, including getting revenge on his boss, who he despises, and getting back at his ex-girlfriend. He also uses them to impress his new girlfriend, a beautiful yoga instructor named Lacey. However, Max soon discovers that his powers are not without consequences, and he must learn to control them before they destroy him.
The film features Chevy Chase as Max Fielder, Patti D'Arbanville as his ex-girlfriend Darcy, and Mary Kay Place as his new girlfriend Lacey. The film received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following. The soundtrack features music from Talking Heads, Blondie, and other popular artists of the time.
